GENERAL PERSONALITY:
Vulcanus' personality depends a great deal on the situation he is placed in. When alone or with close friends, he's caring and somewhat optimistic. When in public, he wears a mask of indifference that rarely falters. On the field of battle, Vulcanus is somewhat harsh, demanding, and at times, even cruel.

Vulcanus is extremely loyal to Promethia, but even he isn't sure if his loyalty lies with the country itself, or it's ruler. Also, he is self-sacrificing to a fault, which leads to the absoluteness that he follows the Emperor's orders. If the Emperor demands that a prisoner not be harmed, Vulcanus will give his meals to the prisoner and assign himself guard duty, even though such a task is considered to be far beneath a General.

HISTORY:

[/b]: Life in Promethia was hard. Because of the poor living conditions, many women did not survive childbirth. Of the babies who managed to hang onto life when their mothers could not, their father did not make himself known. These orphans' lives lead in three directions. A very small number were lucky enough to find themselves adopted. Many met their demise; cold, hungry, and alone. The rest, however, were taken in by the army and trained to be soldiers. One such child, the son of a Hylian traveler and a Human whore, found himself at the army's doorstep...

ADOLESCENCE: After years of training as a soldier, the orphans were given names for the first time. One boy in particular was given the name Acestes. Puberty works in strange ways, but Acestes found himself with pointed ears and his eyes changed color to an odd dark gold. After one of the trainers discovered this, he had Acestes' ears painfully filed down to 'normal' and demoted him. Then came the war. The trainer and most of the orphans that had been in Acestes' group were shipped out with only Acestes and a few others being left behind because they all had been demoted for one reason or another. Neither the trainer, nor any of the orphans returned from the war...

ADULTHOOD: Between Promethia's war with a neighboring country and the Twilight Invasion, Promethia's military had been decimated many times over. A rank and file Infantryman could sleep one day and wake up as the Captain of his division the next. It was during this period of chaos and upheaval that the boy-turned-man Acestes made his claim to fame. Acestes crushed any enemy resistance through deft use of cunning tactics and well placed ambushes. His greatest strength, however, lay in the mastery of fire warfare. Such was his skill that Acestes became known throughout Promethia only as 'Blazing Gestalt'. When the end of the war loomed over the horizon, Acestes was promoted to General, but this came with more than just a title. As an orphan, Acestes was not eligible to be promoted to such a high rank. Furthermore, he was much too young. The youngest General in the history of Promethia had been nearly fourty years old.

Yet, it was decided that the people of Promethia needed a 'hero' to raise morale. It had just so happened that a Nobleman and his reclusive son, Vulcanus Nequam, had been assassinated. With a small amount of effort, the fact that the Nobleman's son had also been killed never found its way to the public and Acestes was placed on the army's ledger as 'deceased.'

Thus, Promethia's Master Strategist came to be.
